This One’s for the Hippies

I created the graphic for this t-shirt in the summer when admittedly, it is much more enjoyable to ride a bike in Toronto… however I only just got around to having it made. I wanted to create something that represents not only the city I live in, but that makes a bold environmental statement. Cycling is also much better for your health and your budget than motorized transportation! I am considering producing these in bulk, so feel free to contact me if you’d like to have one of your own! Also in in the works: “I Rollerblade Toronto”.

Fit Tip #5

Fit Tip #5: Stay hydrated! Drinking lots of water throughout the day is extremely important, but can also get dull. Try spicing up yours by adding in slices of lime or orange – a refreshing change  from the usual lemon variety.

Go Buy Now: Bauer Baclava

Every once in a while one comes across a product that is so deceptively smart that you are left with nothing to say but “why didn’t I think of that?” This is how I feel about the baclava that I recently picked up at Eddie Bauer. What looks like a tube of printed fabric is actually a multi functional piece of equipment, ranging in uses from a winter wear face mask (seen at the top) – perfect for running in the cold or snowboarding, to a headband (above) – great for the gym, to a slew of other things such as a sleeping mask, wrist band, hair elastic, neck warmer, makeshift tensor bandage (hey, you never know!), etc. I’ve only had it for a couple weeks and I’ve used it in so many different instances! Definitely the perfect gift for any fitness/outdoors enthusiast. By the way, you can find it here!

Egg-sperimenting

After my unexpected success with the Egg Stuffed Avocado, I got a little crazy with the egg-sperimentation. One of my favourite creations are these little “egg muffins”, “egg cakes” whatever you want to call them. They’re simple to make and store well, making a good grab and go (portion controlled) breakfast. To make these just pour one or two raw eggs in a muffin tray, mixing in whichever ingredients you like, and then bake in the oven until they are fully cooked through. The first one shown above has tomato paste, hot sauce and cajun spice mixed in for “cajun eggs”, the second one has mushrooms and spinach, and the third is just a plain ol’ fashioned egg (which was eaten with ketchup). You can really put anything in these though, even a piece of bacon or low sodium deli meat on the bottom of the tray for some added protein. Good luck egg-sperimenting!

Egg Stuffed Avocado

This morning I got a little crafty in the kitchen, and decided to try something new by baking an egg inside of an avocado half. Not only are these both super foods (avocados are full of healthy energizing fats – yes, I said healthy fats, and eggs are loaded with protein), but also it tasted absolutely delicious! I know I say that about a lot of things that I cook, but I seriously think I may have started singing after I took my first bite of this. This breakfast is super easy to make: just cut an avocado in half, take out the pit (you might need to scoop out a bit more depending on the size of your egg), pour a raw egg in, and add some seasoning if you’d like (I used a cajun spice). Then just throw it in the oven until the egg is cooked through and enjoy!

Also, a petite fitness update: For those of you that are interested, I am still pushing through on my half marathon training (although admittedly it is getting tougher with this cold weather!), and I started doing some work outs from p90x for strength training last week which are incredible. I’m really using January as a month to be hard core about my fitness and nutrition. I hope this inspires some of you to do the same! I’ll post more details including a calendar so you can work out along with me if you’d like soon. (:
